Storm knocks out power south of Fargo

Severe thunderstorms blasted across southeast North Dakota and into western Minnesota, knocking out power to thousands of residents and bringing much-needed heavy rain. Cass County Electric Co-op reported 40 power outages, leaving about 5,000 customers without power.

Power outage in Moorhead, caused by a lightning strike that hit one of the city substations and straight-line winds that toppled a half-mile of transmission lines. Power was restored a couple of hours later.

Approximately 2,000 Hydro-Québec customers were without power on in Lachute. A pole was broken which led to the power outage. Crews replaced the pole and made other repairs, and the remaining customers again had electricity later.
